Burnham Park History

burnham park baguio

The 32.84-heactare park is named after an American architect and urban planner Daniel Hudson Burnham. He was not just any architect as he did significant projects in America. In the Philippines, Burnham’s plan for Manila never materialized due to the outbreak of World War II but some components of the plan shaped up including the shore road which became Dewey Boulevard, now known as Roxas Boulevard. He also did some various neoclassical government buildings around Luneta Park that resemble a miniature version of Washington, D.C. As for Baguio, he designed the park and the original plans for the city, and construction began around 1904. This is where the Burnham Park description was obtained.

The park that we see now is smaller than the original park due to urban development, but it retains much of its original design and layout.

Another important thing we must note about Burnham Park history tagalog is that the park played an important role in 1990 when it served as a place of refuge for the people of Baguio following a devastating earthquake.
