2019 has been an amazing year for live music and it looks like 2020 will be another year full of exciting shows for the Pinoy music fans! Almost everything we could’ve asked for—from intimate shows by our favorite local artists to massive festivals and concerts featuring the artists ruling the world stage—is coming. Concerts in Manila will surely be on fire!

This year, some of the classic and biggest artists both local and international will take the Philippine stage in the upcoming concerts in Manila— from Khalid and Avril Lavigne to Malasimbo 2020 and Wanderland Festival.

INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS

1. NCT Dream

When: February 29, 2020

Where: New Frontier Theater

NCTzens, brace yourselves because the leap year just got a little more exciting for you! NCT Dream, the third sub-unit of K-pop idol group NCT, will be coming to Manila on February 29! NCT is a boy group formed and managed by SM Entertainment. Dream is one of its sub-units, and follows a “graduation” system wherein new members graduate from the sub-unit when they turn 20. Its members are Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Chen Le, Jisung, and Jaemin.

2. Green Day

When: March 14, 2020

Where: SM Mall Of Asia Arena

As much as we want to wake you up when September ends, we are now waking you up to tell you that the American punk rock band Green Day is coming to Manila this year for the first time. They are the geniuses behind the hits “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” “Basket Case,” “21 Guns,” and “Boulevard of Broken Dreams”! This is one of the most coveted Manila concerts.

3. Khalid

When: April 2, 2020

Where: SM Mall of Asia Arena

One of the most exciting upcoming concerts in Manila this year is Khalid’s. He is making his way back to Manila in 2020 for his “Free Spirit World Tour.” His best hits include “Location” and “Young Dumb & Broke,” and he’s also got a collaboration titled “Eastside” with Halsey, “Lovely” with Billie Eilish, and “Beautiful People” with Ed Sheeran.

4. Alanis Morissette

When: April 6, 2020

Where: SM Mall of Asia Arena

The 7-time Grammy Award-winner Alanis Morissette will be bringing her 2020 World Tour to Manila this April as part of the 25th anniversary celebration of her Jagged Little Pill album. It’s been a while since the ’90s icon was in the country for a concert. Her last was in 1996 so for sure, it’ll be a great comeback.

5. Boys Like Girls

When: April 16, 2020

Where: New Frontier Theater

Boys Like Girls is returning to Manila for a one-night performance of their LIVE! Album. Their last show here was in 2008 and we’re pretty sure that they’re looking forward to having their eardrums burst from their fans’ screaming!

6. Tori Kelly

When: April 20, 2020

Where: New Frontier Theater

Two-time Grammy Award-winner Tori Kelly will be swinging by Manila in April for the very first time for her “Inspired by True Events World Tour.” The American Idol alumna is best known for her songs such as “Unbreakable Smile,” “Nobody Love” and “Never Alone.”

7. PULP Summer Slam XX: Judgement Day

When: May 16, 2020

Where: SM Mall of Asia Arena 

Metal fans here’s something to get you excited! British heavy metal band Iron Maiden will be making their Philippine debut as they headline PULP Summer Slam XX: Judgement Day. Also performing here are Death Angel, Dragonforce, BABYMETAL, and KING 810.

8. Avril Lavigne

When: May 20, 2020

Where: Araneta Coliseum

Get your mascara and eyeliner because punk is making a comeback courtesy of pop-punk princess Avril Lavigne. She is coming back to Manila as part of her Head Above Water World Tour. Avril is known for her hits “Complicated,” the carefree “Sk8er Boi,” and the rebellious “Girlfriend.” This is definitely one of the most exciting concerts in Manila this 2020!

9. 98 Degrees

When: May 21, 2020

Where: SM Mall of Asia Arena

98 Degrees are ready to set the Philippines’ hearts on fire with stops in Cebu, Davao, and Manila this May. They will be bringing their greatest hits to Manila in May. They are best known for their hits such as “I Do (Cherish You),” “The Hardest Thing” and “My Everything.”

10. (G)I-DLE

K-Pop girl group (G)I-DLE is coming to Manila for their 2020 world tour “I-LAND: WHO AM I.”

(G)I-DLE debuted in May 2018, and includes members from all over the region: Miyeon, Soojin, and Soyeon from Korea; Minnie from Thailand, Yuqi from China, and Shuhua from Taiwan.

11. Billie Eilish

When: September 5, 2020

Billie Eilish is set to bring her Where Do We Go? World Tour to Manila this September. 

Global chart-topper Billie Eilish is bringing her highly-anticipated “Where Do We Go? World Tour” to the Philippines, performing her first-ever concert in the country. The 18-year old singer made history as she’s the first artist born this millennium to achieve both a No. 1 album and single and is now the third female solo artist in the 31-year history with multiple songs topping the Billboard Alternative Songs airplay chart (alongside Alanis Morrissette and Sinead O’Connor).

12. TWO-gether Again: Martin Nievera and Pops Fernandez

The ex-husband and wife Martin Nievera and Pops Fernandes may no longer be together but they remain friends and will be two-gether again for an 8-day concert! The two singers are not just popular in the Philippines but also worldwide because of their heart-touching love songs. Dubbed as the Concert King and Queen, the two artists are in-demand both in the Philippines and abroad.

13 Ely Buendia: A Night at the Theater The Repeat

When: February 20, 2020

Where: Newport Performing Arts Theater, Resorts World Manila

Because “A Night At The Theater” concert was a success last December, the musical Pinoy rock icon Ely Buendia is gearing up for a repeat performance on February 20! He will be joined by the whole cast of the 2018 hit “Ang Huling El Bimbo: The Musical.”

14. And The Story Begins (Basil Valdez, Lani Misalucha, Ryan Cayabyab, and the Manila Symphony Orchestra String Ensemble)

When: February 28 – 29, 2020 

Where: Newport Performing Arts Theater, Resorts World Manila

“And The Story Begins” joins the A-listers in the Philippine music scene together in one concert. The Philippines’ Premiere Balladeer Basil Valdez, Asia’s Nightingale Lani Misalucha and the Philippines’ National Artist for Music Maestro Ryan Cayabyab will perform together in Newport Performing Arts Theater.

15. Rakrakan Festival 2020: Peace, Love, & Music 

When: February 29, 2020

Where: CCP Open Grounds, Buendia Ave. cor. Macapagal Ave., Pasay City

More than six stages and 120 artists in one big event will take the Manila concerts scene to the next level (again). The performers include Grace Note, Philia, The Republicats, Pedicab, Skychurch, Imago, 6Cyclemind, Chicosci, Typecast, Teeth, Greyhoundz, Wilabaliw, Slapshock and many more.

16. Ebe Dancel

When: February 29, 2020

Where: Metrotent Convention Center

Believe it or not, this is the first time Filipino artist Ebe Dancel is having his own solo concert! The former Sugarfree vocalist is performing his songs with The Manila String Machine on February 29. The show is to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the band and all of their songs, so there’s a high chance that he’ll play OPM classics like “Burnout,” “Makita Kang Muli,” and “Tulog Na.”

17. Malasimbo 2020

When: February 29 – March 1, 2020

Where: La Mesa Eco Park, Quezon City

Expect a full-blown stage on the 2-day Malasimbo Festival with performances from Cory Henry and the Funk Apostles, Laneous, Anomalie, Matteo Mancuso, Mike Love, Jesus Molina Quartet, Uncomfortable Science, Brigada, Project Yazz, and Talata ni Tala!

18. Wanderland Festival 2020

When: March 7-8, 2020

Where: Filinvest City Event Grounds

Foals, Nick Murphy/Chet Faker, Joji, Niki, Ben&Ben, Bruno Major, IV of Spades, Omar Apollo, ((( O ))), Ali Gatie, Stephen Day, George, August Wahh & crwn, Banna Harbera, Flu, Ysanygo, Morobe, The Sundown, No Rome, Cosmo’s Midnight,​​​​​​​ Urbandub, and The Paper Kites are all lined up to perform at the 8th Wanderland Festival.

19. Gary Valenciano

When: April 18-19, 2020

Where: Smart Araneta Coliseum

Gary Valenciano is taking his final bow at his last major solo concert, making this one of the most awaited upcoming concerts in Manila. According to his son Paolo, the family now prioritizes Mr. Pure Energy’s health, as he is diabetic and survived his recent battle with cancer after also undergoing a bypass surgery. But they clarified that this is not the last Gary V. concert but the last major solo production. Gary V. would still like to pursue their dream collaborations with other artists.

When you’re attending concerts in Manila, it’s better to be early at the venue. The best way to avoid being late is to book budget hotels near the area. This will also come in handy after the concert so you can rest well after screaming your hearts out to your favorite artists.
