Indonesia Tourism Guidelines | COVID-19 Updates

According to the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia, the country has decided to reopen Bali and Riau Islands for eligible visitors following some terms and conditions. Before planning your trip to Indonesia, make sure to complete your visa and travel requirements to enter the country. This way, you can tick off every Bali tourist spot in your itinerary without being stressed!

Travel Requirements to Visit Tourist Attractions in Indonesia

So yes, you’ve read it right! Indonesia is open for tourism 2021 and here are the things you must know before planning your trip. 

Travel Requirements for Foreigners Entering Indonesia

  1. A negative RT-PCR test result in their country of origin. This is required to be done at a maximum of 2 x 24 hours before departure.
  2. Download and fill out eHAC Indonesia (Indonesia Health Alert Card) application via smartphone, then show the details to the officer upon arrival. Foreigners can also visit the Indonesia Health Alert Card, Ministry of Health’s website, to fill out the form.
  3. Show a card or certificate (physical or digital) for both vaccine doses.

Foreigners must also comply with the following quarantine rules in Indonesia before visiting Indonesia famous places.

  1. Upon arrival, the individual must undergo an RT-PCR test and must undertake an 8 x 24 hour quarantine.
  2. A second RT-PCR test must be done on the 7th day of quarantine.
  3. If the result is negative, the individuals will be allowed to continue their journey in Indonesia with a recommendation to do self-quarantine for 14 days. If the test result is positive, the individuals will be treated in a hospital and are paid at their own expense.
  4. Head of foreign representatives and family members on duty in Indonesia are able to quarantine at their respective residences for 8 x 24 hours.

Pre-departure preparation regarding visas

Before departing to Bali and Riau Islands, you are required to have an e-Visa.

The electronic visa system (e-Visa) application system that the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights has launched aims to assist foreign travelers who intend to visit Indonesia tourist spots. Through this system, foreigners can apply for a visa online without hassle. Check out this article to know more information about e-Visa.

Free Visit Visa Waiver and Visit Visa on Arrival are temporarily suspended by the Ministry to protect Indonesian citizens from the increasing transmission rate of the COVID-19 along with its new variants. Below are the valid Visas or Stay Permits allowed to enter the Indonesian Territory:

  • Diplomatic and official/service Visa;
  • Visit Visa;
  • Limited stay permit Visa;
  • Diplomatic residence permits and official residence permits;
  • Limited stay permit (KITAS) and residence permit cards (KITAP)
  • Kartu Perjalanan Pebisnis Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (KPP APEC)

Arrival protocols

Upon arrival at the airports, you must follow several measures before you can continue your trip to Indonesia tourist places. According to Circular of Covid-19 Task Force No. 20 Year 2021, all international travelers, whether you are an Indonesian citizen or a foreign national, should comply with the existing health protocols. 

You will be able to enter the territory of Indonesia under the following conditions:

  • Through entry points (airports) in Bali and the Riau Islands.
  • Can show a card or certificate of receipt of COVID-19 vaccine and a negative RT-PCR test result.
  • Short Visit Visa or other entry permits in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Proof of ownership of health insurance with a minimum coverage value of USD 100,000 which includes financing for handling COVID-19.
  • Proof of booking confirmation and payment (booking) for accommodation from the accommodation provider while staying in Indonesia.

Quarantine rules

Those who receive negative RT-PCR results upon arrival are required to undergo mandatory quarantine for 5 x 24 hours or 14 x 24 hours, depending on the escalation COVID-19 case of the origin country. The requirements before you explore places to visit in Bali are as follows:

  • For Indonesian citizens who are migrant workers, students that have finished education, and civil servants on duty, the quarantine facilities provided by the Indonesia government are free of charge.
  • For Indonesian citizens (not on the criteria from the above-mentioned points) and foreigners in self-funded quarantine accommodation recommended by the COVID-19 Task Force, and have met the terms and conditions of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association and the Ministry of Health.

Another RT-PCR test will be conducted four days after self-quarantine from the date of arrival. If the test shows a negative result, after 5 days of quarantine, you will be declared for completed quarantine. 

Meanwhile, if the RT-PCR test shows positive result then you will have to undergo:

  • Treatment in centralized isolation facilities for asymptomatic people and people with mild symptoms.
  • Treatment at a referral hospital for people with moderate and severe symptoms.
