When is Father’s Day 2021?

This year, Father’s Day 2021 is on June 20, Sunday.

Last year, Father’s Day 2020 was also celebrated on the same date; however, it is not the same every year because the Fathers Day date falls on the third Sunday of June.

Fathers Day Origin

The first Fathers Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910 in the state of Washington in the United States of America. However, it was not until 1972 that the day honoring fathers became a nationwide holiday in the United States.

According to History.com, a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd tried to establish an official equivalent to Mother’s Day for male parents back in 1909. She went to local businesses and government officials to gather support for her idea, and she was successful because on June 19, 1910, the state of Washington had their first-ever Father’s Day celebration.

Over decades later, the celebration of Father’s Day spread from state to state, and countries, even reached Fathers Day Philippines. Then on May 1, 1972, President Richard Nixon signed it into law, which declared Father’s Day as a national holiday. The first official celebration was on June 18, 1972 and now we’re on Father’s Day 2021.
