Polilya is not your ordinary bar. Located in Poblacion, Makati City, it’s the home of Engkanto Brewery, owned by Ian Paradies. Once you get past its doors, you’ll be sucked into a magical and enchanting taproom that weirdly makes you feel at home with its comfy seats and purple neon lighting.
Polilya means “moth” in Tagalog. In cultures across the world, it’s usually a symbol of the afterlife, or an otherworldly dimension. After visiting this bar, we could say that it definitely gave us an out of this world experience with their delicious drinks and beer-infused food!

For drinks, their Engkanto Lager (PHP 140-200) is very light and smooth with a touch of citrus flavor. It’s one of the best local beers out there! The first thing you’ll notice about their cocktail, Goldfinger (PHP 360), is the environmentally friendly bamboo straw which is a nice touch to this drink made with turmeric infused vodka, pressed ginger syrup, fresh lime, ginger beer and topped with double IPA dalandan foam. Lastly, their Nina Margarita (PHP 335) is definitely delicious. It’s a combination of Jose Cuervo Tradicional, citrus blend, beer agave and tamarind which packs a punch.

Pair up these drinks with their beer-infused food, which they call “Beer Chow”. Polilya’s Ultimate Nachos (PHP 285) is generously made with layers of corn tortilla chips, Pico de Gallo salsa, red beans, jalapeno rings, grated cheddar, meat sauce and sour cream. It was a mountain of goodness! The Polilya Cheeseburger (PHP 390), which was made with their House Burger mixed with Spanish chorizo, red pepper-cheese spread, and house cut potato crisps. It’s juicy and perfect with beer! Also, don’t miss out on Polilya’s Chips and Dip (PHP 160) which you can get for free when you book at any ZEN Rooms in Makati City!
Polilya will surely cast a spell on you, making you want to go back!

Address: 2/F 5666 Don Pedro Street, Poblacion, Makati

What to order: Wabi Cha Cha Cocktail (PHP280), Pom Yum Salad (PHP220)

The Wild Poppy is a rooftop bar and restaurant serving Modern Southeast Asian fare and handcrafted cocktails. At first look, you’ll think of it as a good venue for a ‘titahan’ night: it has pillows, properly dimmed lights, floral accents, breezy air, and pastel-colored drinks. But with its filling plates and more than satisfactory concoctions, even titos, dads, and big barkadas frequent this place just to have a taste of the best that Southeast Asia has to offer!

6. Polilya

What to order: Goldfinger (PHP360), Four O’clock Flight (PHP280)

With its distinctly eclectic furniture and ambient lighting, Polilya feels like a private club sans an expensive membership fee. The owner Ian Paradies started brewing his own line of craft beers under the Engkanto brand back in November 2016 and decided to give them a cozy and classy home with Polilya where he serves his signature craft designed to cater to the Filipino palate (sweet and sour) while being affordable and Instagrammable.

Loco Manuk also makes it to our list of best restaurants Poblacion Makati. Their interiors are decked out in vibrant posters, funky decor, and bold patterned tiles, making it a perfect Instagram-friendly place. But unlike other IG-friendly restaurants, Loco Manuk’s food is just as vibrant and impressive as its interiors. Their cuisine is a fusion of Peruvian, Thai, and Filipino.

What to order: Rice Cups (PHP220), Tofu (PHP180), and Veal Steak (PHP1,200)

As soon as you enter Lampara, what catches you is the open space marked by high ceilings. It also has a relaxed open veranda to feel the breeze and check what’s happening outside, and a little glass-house nook with a cozy Mod, ’60s-vibe where you can have drinks. And as good as how the restaurant looks like, their food is one of a kind that’s why it’s no surprise that Lampara comes to the list of best restaurants Poblacion Makati.

If you’re craving for something tropical, Tortuga is the best place to be! It’s like a tropical destination in the middle of the bustling district, with island vibes plus food and cocktails that are affordable. With their island-inspired interiors, you’ll definitely feel like you’re on a beach holiday. Every corner is very Instagrammable!

Expect finger-licking good Costa Rican food, affordably good drinks, and reggae music. It’s a good alternative to the highly-westernized bars in BGC. If you don’t feel like partying hard on a Friday night but still want to have a chill time with some decent booze and good friends, Pura Vida is the place for you!
