About Peoples Park Tagaytay

People’s Park in the Sky, formerly known as the Palace in the Sky, is an incomplete mansion that was converted into an urban park. It is said that then First Lady Imelda Marcos ordered the mansion to be built to accommodate then U.S. President Ronald Reagan’s planned trip to the Philippines. But the construction stopped when the visit was canceled. Nevertheless, the unfinished business turned out to be a great attraction that you should include in your Tagaytay tourist spots itinerary.

People’s Park in the Sky History

During the former dictator Ferdinand Marcos’ term, his first lady Imelda Marcos decided to build a mansion on top of Mount Sungay. It was used by the Bureau of Air Transport as a radar station before the construction began in 1981. The construction was a challenge because of the Peoples Park in the Sky’s location, and farmers living on the mountainside were asked to relocate. However, when President Reagan’s visit got canceled, the construction of Peoples Park Tagaytay was stopped, too. And this is the Palace in the Sky Tagaytay history.
