Cebu City is the Philippines’ second largest city. It’s a hub of activity and many visitors tend to pass through. Surprisingly, it’s got some spectacular white sand beaches of its own (and there are some incredible ones just outside). The city boasts some great architecture and is a brilliant place to learn and observe Philippine’ culture.

Main attractions in Cebu City

You should head to the white sand beaches of Mactan and, even further out of the city, Moalboal (some areas of which have ice cream vendors, others don’t).If you’re more interested in how the city works, head to Chong Hua Hospital and the Cebu IT Park to see more recent developments in Philippine architecture. When it comes to shopping, the Ayala Center Cebu and SM City Cebu are good place to visit in the heart of the city. Both have a good range of upmarket shops and nice restaurants to grab a bite to eat from.

Neighbourhoods in Cebu City

If you want to see a really authentic Cebu city experience, head to Ermita and visit the Carbon Market; the oldest and largest farmer’s market in the city. Alternatively, San Jose is host to a relaxing spa retreat known as the The Oceanessence Spa. In Guadalupe you’ll find one of the city’s best vegetarian restaurants in the form of Planet Vegis Cebu. If you’re a partying type of person, you can then head to Mabolo. With club ICON, you’re bound to have an interesting night. If you’re more interested in the outside, Mandaue is probably the place for you. With the Genesis Valley national park, you’re likely to see the Philippines in its natural state. Mabini is also great for those who like outdoors sports. With paths stretching back across beautiful countryside, you can either rent a bike and ride, or walk. In Lahug you’ll find the Cebu IT park and Cebu’s Taoist Temple. Both of which are interesting for any designers out there. For another temple, head to Busay, where you’ll be able to find directions to The Temple of Leah, just outside the neighbourhood. There’s also Banilad, where you’ll find the University of San Carlos. Also, just next door is Santo Nino Village.
